Hi my name is Cynthia Dockray and I am a graduate of Hawthorne High School's Class of 1986. I recieved my bachelor degree from William Paterson University in 1991 at which time I began working for the Hawthorne Board of Education. I have 2 children, both of whom graduated from Hawthorne High School and are full time college students; my son is entering his sophmore year at Marymount Manhattan College and my daughter is a senior at Fairleigh Dickenson University. My past experience includes owning and managing a bakery and cafe. I have an extensive business backround combined with culinary experience.  As with operating a small business, you must wear a variety of hats and take on all tasks.  My skills include baking, bread making, cake and cookie decorating, off premise catering, event planning, pizza making and preparing a variety of ethnic foods and recipes. Accounting, purchase ordering, inventory and time management are a crucial part of my everyday life. I have worked with school age students for the past 25 years and my love for children and food were joined in 2012 when Culinary Arts was introduced as an upcoming elective in our district. In Culinary Arts, I will provide and build basic culinary skills with the students. The course will offer an introduction to Culinary Art's principles including food safety and sanitation, proper commerical kitchen protocol procedures, extensive culinary terminology,  reading, writing and executing recipes with accurate skills being mastered in measuring. Students will be given an overview of tools and equipment used both in home and commercial kitchens.
