Miss Elizabeth Farkas
Once upon a time, there was a little girl who loved playing "school" with her siblings. As far back as she could remember, she always wanted to be a teacher. As soon as she was able to, she was the student helper for the kindergarten teachers in her elementary school...clapping out the chalk from the erasers and washing the chalkboards. She would help 1st graders at reading time...listening to the younger students read aloud. She admired her teachers, looked up to them, and wanted to be one of them. She knew at a very young age that this was her calling. Years later, as a teenager throughout high school, she worked as a camp counselor for a day camp in her hometown. She became a head counselor and continued working at the summer camp throughout her undergraduate years at William Paterson University. While in college, she became a member of The Student Council for Exceptional Citizens, a volunteer for the North Jersey Developmental Center, and a volunteer for Special Olympics through her sorority. All of these experiences undoubtedly helped prepare her for a future career in education. Graduating with a bachelor's degree in Special Education, she began her career in Hawthorne in the fall of 1999. Hired as a paraprofessional at the start of her career, she was placed in a kindergarten classroom. She was immediately impressed with the enthusiastic teacher and enjoyed every moment in the kindergarten setting. She was soon inspired to obtain certification for regular education in the hopes of one day, becoming a "Kindergarten Teacher." That day came along, the little girl was me, and I am pleased to welcome you to my website!!!
Hello!! I'm Miss Farkas, and I have just embarked on my 20th year in the Hawthorne Public School District. I am excited for another new school year full of fun and engaging experiences for both myself and my students. In my 19 years of experience here in Hawthorne, one was spent as a half-day paraprofessional/half-day teacher of a Preschool Disabilities Class. Ten years have been spent in the realm of special education, and 8 years have been spent in the regular education kindergarten classroom. I have truly enjoyed all of my experiences as an educator and am thrilled to continue this experience with you and your children this coming school year. My goal is to present the kindergarten curriculum in a way that excites your child's mind to learn. I want each child to have a true love for school, and a true love for learning. I hope to not only inspire your children, but to be inspired by them as well. In closing, please enjoy the following quote which best describes my teaching philosophy:
"One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feelings. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child." ~Carl Jung
