Media Arts students visited the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, Queens for a movie production tour followed by an interactive ad campaign design workshop.  The students are currently learning about advanced font creation and the manipulation of typography.

Broadcasting students completed an editing project that required them to brainstorm, plan, write, shoot and edit a television commercial.  This was a complete video production from pre through post production.

SLE students took a bus tour of Eastwick College.  They visited four campuses on two separate days.

The SHARE Club collected food for the Good Shepherd Mission for Thanksgiving and sold T-Shirts to generate a considerable donation to the Jimmy Soder Fund.

Students in Microeconomics invited a Hawthorne High School alumni CPA to discuss career opportunities in the field of accounting.  As part of the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants’ Pay It Forward Program, there was an interactive presentation informing of various accounting specialties and the high employment rate in accounting.  Students planning to pursue degrees in accounting were provided with information to apply for up to $10,000 in college scholarships.

Criminal Justice students visited the Hawthorne Police Department Shooting Range accompanied by two police detectives.

Assemblyman Tim Eustace visited HHS to speak with the AP US History students to discuss how our State government works, death with dignity and the 2016 Presidential election.

A collaborative team of Science, Math and Fine Arts teachers have volunteered their time to help create a video that will be submitted to a contest sponsored by Land’s End in the hopes of winning a 3-D printer for the school. The Broadcasting students are taking charge of editing.

Senior Honors and AP English students are completing a literary analysis of Hamlet.

Spanish students accessed the LingtLanguage.com website to assess their oral proficiency.

The senior class is preparing for the Holiday Dance at Macaluso’s Restaurant by determining seating arrangements, designing centerpieces and arranging a DJ.

Geometry Honors students have been completing geometric constructions using a compass and a straightedge and performing constructions on a computer program called Geometer’s Sketchpad.

The Xenopore Corporation, a chemical engineering firm in Hawthorne, donated several pieces of scientific equipment and chemical supplies to our Science Dept.

AP Chemistry students conducted a Calorimetry experiment consisting of the neutralization reaction heat exchange measurements in a coffee cup calorimeter.

AP Biology students engaged in a sample dissection for the 8th Grade Open House.

Working with our WPU Professor in Residence, teachers are incorporating Google into classes, setup and presentations.
